The Maine Model

US farmers are facing a challenge that has no clear path of escape. Biosolids have been given to farmers as a cheap way to fertilize their crops for years but now we are discovering that they are laden and full of PFAS. Farmers are having to take a step back from crops that are no longer acceptable for human consumption. Land, passed down for generations, has been ruined by this one practice and there is no easy fix. That said, farmers in Maine are among the first to begin tackling this problem at a governmental level.
