ERC Cancer Scholarship

These scholarships are available to provide financial assistance to college students in their pursuit of a higher education who have previously or are currently diagnosed with cancer. High school seniors or current college students are eligible for these scholarships.

Scholarships, up to $1000 each, will be awarded on an ongoing basis to students who qualify.

Any person who meets the following requirements is eligible to apply:

  • Qualified applicants must be students who will be, or who already have been, accepted to an accredited two or four year higher education institution.
  • Can provide verification of a diagnosis of cancer.
  • Must be a United States Citizen.
  • Must currently maintain residency in the State of California or be accepted into a two or four year higher education institution located in the State of California.

Application Checklist

A completed scholarship application must be received along with the following documentation:

  • At least two letters of recommendation should accompany the packet. At least one of the letters should be a personal reference not from a family member.
  • A copy of your high school transcript.
  • Acceptance letter to an accredited two or four year higher education institution or a copy of your unofficial college transcript.
  • A doctor’s written diagnosis of your cancer diagnosis. Supporting documentation may be necessary.
  • Synopsis of your path to recovery

The synopsis of you path to recovery is meant to be broad and open- ended. Recovery does not necessarily mean “remission.” This synopsis is intended to learn more about your difficulties as a cancer survivor. If you would prefer, you may discuss instead what this scholarship award would mean to you and your family, and what you would use the award for upon receipt.

Additional Information

Scholarship recipients must use the award to defray necessary expenses such as tuition, living expenses, books, supplies, university fees and special project costs.

Within six (6) months of the scholarship distribution, a short (up to one page) report from the Scholarship recipient is due to the ERC Cancer Scholarship Fund Committee so they may learn about the accomplishments and activities of the scholarship recipient.
